Inaugural photo session

JMT (Julie and Jeremy Tarr) got their butts up to DC for the big event. Julie sent me these pictures of the crowds, which I like because they give me a little microtaste of the excitement and of the lovely diversity represented. Enjoy. Perhaps I can convince one of them to write a little recap of the experience while it is still fresh.

So great to see the JTs in action in DC! I'm so glad they were there to witness the moment! Great pictures.

In addition to the benefits one would expect from attending the inauguration in person – witnessing history, interacting with people, meeting the millions of voters that caste ballots for Obama, street venders, etc. – I was surprised by something else.

The marches played by the military band were musically very interesting. Each one had a different personality and evoked a unique feeling. Just like Guinean music, each had rich musical layers and themes throughout. When the ceremony ended, the entire crowd started marching to "Hail to the Chief." Priceless.

We often hear "Hail to the Chief" and "Stars and Stripes Forever," but I have never heard a dozen marches in a row played live by a first class band. (You can search those song titled in Wikipedia for audio samples).
